Twelve new commissions, one world
The world

Science fiction has always decided who the future belongs to.

Chapter 006 hands that decision to the people usually written out of it. Twelve artists each build an artifact of a single future — not the clean, chrome one the genre keeps selling, but a world authored by those it tends to leave behind. You move through it for one night. A body remade for a planet that no longer keeps to seasons. A ritual for weather that lost its calendar. A machine that remembers a history someone tried to delete.

It's science fiction as rehearsal — a way to feel a future the data can only describe, built by the artists working where performance meets technology, in the room New York doesn't yet have for them.

The work

Twelve artifacts.
Two registers.
One night.

Whitebox
Six installations · the lab register

Six built environments — material, immersive, made to be walked through. The work that asks what a future is made of.

Blackbox
Six performances · the stage register

Six live works — bodies, sound, time. The work that asks what a future feels like as it happens to you.

Each cohort is half established artists, half emerging — the ones who shaped this field beside the ones remaking it. Every work is documented and entered, openly, into the Artifact Index, so the night becomes a record the field can keep.

About

Artifice builds the room where performance meets technology.

A 501(c)(3) founded in 2024, Artifice produces one Chapter a year — a science-fiction world made by artists too live for a gallery and too experimental for a museum. Chapter 005, Sights: Science Fiction, drew 998 people in a single night. Everything we make enters the Artifact Index, a free public record of how the work gets made. Developed inside the Onassis ONX studio at 390 Broadway; Chapter 006 is co-presented with Rhizome.
